Rick served in the U.S. Air Force, then received his law degree from Marquette University. Prior to forming Nell & Associates, S.C., he was a partner in Stellpflug, Janssen, Nell, Hammer, Kirschling & Bartels, S.C. Rick is a member of the Brown County and American Bar Associations, the State Bar of Wisconsin, the State Bar of Wisconsin Business Law Committee, the State Bar of Wisconsin General Practice Committee and the American Health Lawyers Association, the ABA and the State Bar Health Law Committees and the AHLA Physician's Substantive Law Committee.

He has served two terms as President of the De Pere Area Business Association, was an adjunct Professor at Silver Lake College, is on the Board of Directors for the De Pere Main Street Program, past President of Celebrate De Pere, a past member of the St. Norbert President's Council and past President of the De Pere Kiwanis Club, as well as numerous other non-profit, civic and church committees. Rick's substantial community involvement has resulted in his being named the Wisconsin Mainstreet Program State Volunteer of the Year for 2000 and the firm receiving the Main Street's President award in 2001 and 2002. Rick has received numerous other local volunteer recognitions.
